The 15th Amendment
The 15th Amendment is the second, post-Civil War, Reconstruction Amendment and it ensures that no government can prevent a citizen from voting because of their race, skin color or previous condition of servitude. The 15th Amendment was proposed on February 26, 1869 and was finally ratified on February 3, 1870. Thomas Mundy Peterson was the first African American man to vote under the newly passed provision.
